To empower the members we often invite guest speakers from the Police department, Medical profession, QJA officers and representatives from other local service agencies. On occasions where we do not have guests speakers we review the JP manual.
Our branch’s social activities include hosting events such as International Women’s Day where the greater Warwick community are invited to attend, listen and interact with local celebrities who share their success stories and experiences.
In February 2015, we hosted “Workshop with a Difference” which included two Forums.
The first one discussing Oaths and Affirmations attended by our very own Marian Vierveyzer who talked about the standard method of attending to Oaths and Affirmations. Then we had speakers from different religious and cultural backgrounds such as Buddhists, Islam, Chinese and Quaker who explained the reason behind the various practices.
The second forum discussed Justice Examination Order. Marian Vierveyzer explained the procedure to be followed by a Justice of the Peace while a medical doctor and a police officer discussed how they deal with the situation and procedures taken when a JEO is presented to them.
The QJA Warwick Branch actively support and participate in workshops conducted by the Justice and Attorney General department. For those members that were unable to attend we supply them with any paperwork distributed at the workshop and discuss topics that were not self explanatory . . . at the subsequent branch meeting.
