Under section 16(c) of the Justices of the Peace and Commissioners for Declarations Act 1991 the courses 10793NAT - Course in Community Justice Services (Commissioner for Declarations) and 10794NAT - Course in Community Justice Services (Justice of the Peace [Qualified]. are the courses the Minister has approved for persons required to complete before being so appointed. Appointment is through the Department of Justice and Attorney-General, Queensland Government.

Queensland Justices Association is Queensland's largest provider of the course and a Registered Training Organisation. Our provider number is 31906. We offer 12 months complimentary membership so you can keep learning and continue to be supported after the course ends.

Why Do Our Training? What is the Difference between a JP (Qual) and C. Dec?
We are Queensland’s most established and Australia’s largest association for honorary justices.  Because we have so much history and experience in practice as a JP, we can provide a practical, hands-on approach to training.

We are a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) licenced to deliver the course required for appointment as a Justice of the Peace (Qualified) or Commissioner for Declarations.

Our trainers are not just qualified to TAE and experienced trainers, they are JPs with many years of experience.

We are the only RTO providing training as well as membership and ongoing professional development for our students so we can offer ongoing support well after you have been appointed.
A Commissioner for Declarations can perform the administrative duties namely:

  • Statutory Declarations

  • Affidavits

  • Certify Copies

  • Wills

  • Powers of Attorney

  • Land Titles Documents

  • Other documents where prescribed

A Justice of the Peace (Qualified) can perform the above and judicial duties such as:

  • Issuing summonses

  • Issuing arrest and search warrants

  • Attending records of interview

  • Hearing Bail Applications

How is the Course Delivered and is it available online? How much does it cost?
Both courses are available fully online – which can be commenced at any time.

We deliver the classroom courses around Queensland and in Brisbane we run two weekday courses and a weekend course each month.

The weekend courses in both Brisbane and regionally are over 3 consecutive Saturdays generally but some branches run weekday courses as well.
The cost for the course for Commissioner for Declarations (C. Dec) is $320 and for Justice of the Peace (Qualified) (JPQ) is $400 (from 1st January 2020)

Fees are inclusive of all materials and include complimentary membership of our association for 12 months which gives you access to ongoing support, member workshops, our extensive web resources including member tools and refresher quizzes as well as coverage under our umbrella voluntary workers and liability policy.

The fees are the same for both classroom and online learning.  The C. Dec course can be upgraded later on to a JPQ.
